Hino in the Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix

The famous Red Bull Trolley Grand Prix was held earlier this month at Auckland Domain. This year Hino was involved, not in the racing but by using our trucks to transport and recover the many masterpieces created for the event.

The Hino FC 4×2 tipper was on standby during the course of the day to ‘pick up the pieces’, collecting any carts that fell victim to the course, or that simply fell apart due to bad engineering.  Our recently restored 1975 Hino KL flat deck was the transport vehicle used so that the carts could be taken in style from the bottom of the course back to the pitlane for collection.

The Grand Prix is a free event which is held every second year, seeing 80,000 people streaming through the gates for this spectacle. The production and organisation itself is amazing, with a giant stage and sound system setup for the NZ bands, full pit crew areas, judging stage, topped off with an epic 650m obstacle course running from the top of Domain Drive all the way to the bottom, it makes for a true experience on the senses which only Red Bull does so well.

Hosts of the show were Jono Pryor and Ben Boyce from Jono & Ben @ 10.  The boys added a bit of humour to the proceedings throughout the day.  Each team had to peform a skit before they raced, giving them a change to add to their total score.

Winners on the day was Team Zoom, with 2nd place going to Cook Me Some Eggs & 3rd place sitting with Cata-Morons.
