Final Licence Competition Winners Announced
July 12, 2016 11:00 pmHino Distributors (NZ) Ltd drew the final two winners of the truck licence competition on Monday 20 June & 4 July.
Continuing to be a significant contributor to New Zealand’s economic performance and showing their commitment to the industry, Hino are proud to announce Mike Evans and Wayne Cryer as the winners of the Class 4 or Class 5 truck licence prize packages.
To enter the truck licence competition entrants were asked to outline why they would like to upgrade their licence. The packages include logbook theory, practical training and assessment through AMS Group, a package which is valued up to $1000.
Mike Evans has never won anything before in his life and exclaimed “this has made my year” when he was drawn as the first winner on the 20th of June. Following in the footsteps of his late father, Mike has wanted to be a truck driver from a young age. Having just brought up his first decade in the industry, Mike’s enthusiasm has never ceased and he still loves driving every day. Looking forward to upgrading his Class 4 licence, Mike seeks to help others follow their dream – including his five-year-old son who wants to follow his father and grandfather into trucking.
Hino’s second licence upgrade winner, Wayne Cryer, helps his father run their family business in Puriri, near Thames. Wayne has been interested in growing the business by adding a truck and trailer unit to their fleet, but has been restricted due to Wayne only holding a Class 4 licence. Wayne is looking forward to finally be able to add a trailer onto his six wheeler truck which he uses daily.
“The sector has been short of drivers for more than a decade, and it’s getting worse,” says Sime Darby Commercial Group General Manager. Hino is committed to their clients, industry, economy and environment. Helping drivers obtain their Class 4 or 5 licence is an investment in the industry helping provide long-term sustainability.
All three competition winners have now been drawn and contacted. Wayne will be presented and undertake his Class 5 course in Hamilton, while Mike will be presented his Class 5 package in the coming weeks. The first winner, Travis Quin, has received his Class 2 licence in Palmerston North and is currently in his 6-month stand-down period before he can attempt his Class 4.
Hino wishes Mike, and Wayne all the best obtaining their Class 5 licence, and Travis on his road to completing his Class 4. Hino would like to thank the AMS Group for contributing the licence packages making the competition possible.
